NZFF

Here are my top 5 picks for the up coming New Zealand Film Festival. I look forward to this festival every year. Films make me happy.

1. Moonrise Kingdom.

There has been a lot of hype around this film. Wes Anderson (co directed by Roman Coppola) directs a cast consisting of some really wonderful actors including Bruce Willis, Bill Murray, Edward Norton, Tilda Swinton and Jason Shwartzman.
Plot: Set in New England, two smitten youngsters decide to run away together causing their family and neighbors to go on an epic search for them.

2. Shut Up and Play the Hits.

A lead up to the final performance of LCD Soundsytem at Madison Sqaure Garden in April 2011. LCD Soundsystem! I need say no more.

3. Beasts of the Southern Wild.

This film is set in a fantasy world where enviromental changes have released an army of prehistoric creatures called aurochs. A six year old girl, Hushpuppy goes in search of her mother. Watch the trailer, it is breath taking.

4. Le Tabelau.

French animation. Such a magical and imaginative treat that I am so looking forward to seeing. Watch the trailer.

5. No.

Set in Chile in 1988, No stars Gael García Bernal as René, a ‘creative’ at an ad agency… A smoothie young enough to skateboard to work but experienced enough to have ruined his marriage… René is approached with an unusual thing to sell. After 15 years of military rule under Pinochet, and responding to global pressure, Chile is going to have a plebiscite to continue, or end, the dictatorial era of rule that began with a bloody coup d’état lead by the General-turned-President in 1973. And René is asked to run the campaign for the ‘No’ side.
