They Shoot Horses, Don't They?

This has got to be one of my favorite movies, it does something to me every time I watch it. Here is a trailer of the film and things relating to it. I highly recommend that you watch it.

Alexander McQueen. This show is so amazing, McQueen captured the essence of the film so well. It's beautiful.

Red Velvet Cupcake Recipe

Red Velvet is by far my favorite cupcake flavor...I'm not real big on eating baked treats (although I love baking them, I wouldn't usually have more that one from the batch) but red velvet is such a simple soft flavor, its hard to stop at one. Here is the recipe thanks to The Humming Bird Bakery ( also thanks Clare Butters for buying me this recipe book),

Ingredients
60g butter at room temperature
1 egg
150g caster sugar
10g cocoa
10ml red food colouring
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
120ml buttermilk
150g plain flour
1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 1/2 tsp white wine vinegar
Frosting
300g icing sugar, sifted
50g butter at room temperature
125g cream cheese, chilled

1. Preheat the oven to 180C.

2. Cream the butter, egg and sugar until light and fluffy.

3. In a separate bowl mix the cocoa powder, food colouring and vanilla extract. Once mixed add to the creamed mixture.

4. Mix carefully until combined and then add half the buttermilk, mix further and add half the flour and the baking powder. Mix thoroughly before adding the remainder of the buttermilk and flour and mixing further.

5. Add the white wine vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and salt and mix thoroughly for at least 5 mins.

6. Spoon the mixture into the muffin cases and bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 mins or until the cupcakes spring back slightly when touched.

7. Allow the cupcakes to cool slightly before turning out onto a wire cooling rack.

8. In the meantime, to make the frosting cream the icing sugar and butter together until well mixed.

9. Add the cream cheese and mix until it is incorporated. Continue beating until the frosting is light and fluffy for at least 5 mins.

10. Use a spatula to layer the frosting on top of the cupcakes.

A thousand half-loves: For half way through the week

Here are a few things that I quite like this week,

1. Knitwear. Yay it's almost cold weather time. I love summer, but I love winter more because it's so cozy.

2. Chloe Sevigny. She is super photogenic and has the best fashion. I just love her. She is also so good in Big Love.

3. Hats, Hats, Hats. I'm thinking of becoming a hat wearing lady this winter. They can be so elegant.

Edie Sedgwick

Audrey Hepburn

Marilyn Monroe

Faye Dunaway (Bonnie and Clyde)

4. Dead Man's Bones: Room Where You Sleep. Ryan Gosling playing the piano and an amazing choir of kids dressed creepily cool. Also the lighting and camera work in the video is nice and I love the casual feel it has to it.

5. The Ides of March. I'm finally going to see it tonight, (Many failed attempts to make it to the movies lately, all funny stories,  including beers, Street fighter and donkey dance). Anyway, the film stars Ryan Gosling and George Clooney. Need I say more. Check out the trailer here.

Head Wreath

Oh Hey Sunday.

I've been a busy girl making these beautiful things.

I got most of the flowers from spotlight and the wire they are attached to made it so easy to just twist around the band (which i also made from wire),

I love them and wear them round the house constantly, it makes daily tasks way more fun.
